HYDROPONICS
Hydroponics
is often used by professional farmers that for example
grow cucumbers or tomatoes. In contrary to growing on
earth, the plant does not derive nutrients from soil,
but from the solution used to water the plants. Typical
mediums that are used for hydroponics are rock wool and
cocos. This system normally needs a reservoir, pump and
irrigation system.
Advantages of
hydroponics (rock wool) are:
-
Because of strict control of nutrients the
plant always gets all the food it needs.
-
It is impossible to
over-water because rock wool always retains a high
percentage of oxygen.
-
Low costs because of
reusability.
-
Little waste produced.
-
No salts piling up in the
medium.
Disadvantages
of hydroponics (rock wool) are:
-
The
building of a good system takes some time.
