7. SEA OF GREEN

When a room is full of plants (Sea of Green; SOG) enough plants are used to get an optimum yield. If afterwards becomes clear that some plants died because of lack of space, too many plants were used or plants just stayed in the vegetative stage too long. On the other hand, when at the end of the cycle still spots are open, too little plants are used or plants were in the vegetative stage too short. So, it should be clear such an optimum result (SOG) can be reached with a relative big amount of small plants or relative small amount of big plants.

Advantages of using a small amount of big plants instead of a big amount of small plants:

-          Lesser costs of producing or buying plants.

-          Lesser space needed for producing clones (if you produce yourself).

-          Lesser work planting them.

-          Lesser problems with the quality of the harvest. When something goes wrong with small plants, harvest very often will be completely destroyed because of the vulnerability of small plants (underdeveloped root system).

Disadvantages of using a small amount of big plants instead of a big amount of small plants:

-          Loss of time, one week of extra growing will cost a lot of money. Per year you lose in this way almost a whole harvest.

Be aware, when plants are very small you will also get very, VERY small buds and your harvest will be disappointing. My advice will be, let your plants grow until you see they really feel “HAPPY”. The growing points (the ends of the branches) will look light green and the plants will grow very fast. When this is the case, plants can be forced to bloom by going into the 12-12 regime (12 hours darkness and 12 hours daylight per day). Of course you can also choose to let your plants grow a little longer if you have a relatively small amount of plants.
